ILOILO City – Four fishermen were arrested for allegedly engaging in dynamite fishing in Bukot Island, Barangay Taloto-an, Concepcion, Iloilo on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20.
The following were taken into custody by the Concepcion Municipal Police Station (MPS): boat captain Romel Barrios of Barangay Tabugon, Carles, and his crew “Rifi”, “Rom” and “Rolando”.
Joint elements of the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force led by team leader Police Staff Sergeant Roderick Asturias and supervised by Police Major Joven Arevalo and Concepcion MPS apprehended the fishermen onboard F/B R-Jun around 4:30 p.m.
Authorities confiscated a total of 20 kilograms of assorted fish amounting to around P3,000. Also seized were fishing boat and fishing paraphernalia.
The four fishermen are facing charges for violation of Section 92 of Republic Act (RA) 8550 (The Philippine Fisheries Code) as amended by RA 10654.
The fish samples, meanwhile, were submitted to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for scientific examination./PN
