BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in this city recorded four grass fire incidents for the first two days of the month.
On Monday noon, April 1, an almost two-hour grassfire took place in Bangga Lote, Barangay Alijis.
The following day, April 2, three grass fire incidents also broke out.
Around two hectares of grassland were razed by fire in Barangay Bata on Tuesday morning. Past noontime, a grass fire also occurred in Barangay Handumanan and another was recorded in Barangay Banago on Tuesday night.
The BFP-Bacolod City noted that the heat index forecast reached 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
According to Chief Insp. Stephen Jardeleza, city fire marshal, they sometimes employ controlled burning to combat recurring grass fires.
“In a controlled burning situation, we control the direction and volume of the fire and the use of fuel load. We use grass cutter and backpack sprayer, and not always rely on fire hose. Still, fire trucks on standby,” Jardeleza added.
Data from BFP-Bacolod City showed that in March alone, at least 130 grass fires have been reported in the city./PN
