BACOLOD City – Four men were apprehended for illegal fishing in the seawaters of Barangay Chambery, Manapla, Negros Occidental, police said.
They were identified as Cesar Teraña, 49, Ruel Rojo, 40, Abolaiz Pandao, 46, and Anthony Escota, 20 – all residents of Manapla.
Officers from the Manapla municipal police station arrested the fishermen around 6:35 p.m. on Thursday.
The men were using trawls in catching fishes in the area, police added.
They were brought to the police station where they were detained.
The police also confiscated their fishing boats.
Isabela rape suspect falls
Charged with rape, a man was arrested in Sitio Hinadtuan, Barangay Riverside, Isabela, Negros Occidental, a police report showed.
The 41-year-old laborer Leo Mabi was caught on Thursday on the strength of an arrest warrant that Judge Oscar Tomarong of the Regional Trial Court Branch 28 in Liloy, Zambonga Del Norte issued on March 16.
Joint elements of the Isabela police station and the 3rd Platoon of the 2nd Negros Occidental Police Mobile Force Company staged Mabi’s arrest.

Sagay drug bust nets 1 suspect; 2 others flee
A drug suspect was arrested while two others escaped in a sting operation that police officers staged in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Sagay City police head Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto identified the arrested suspect as the 37-year-old Wilfredo “Jun-jun” Balana Jr.
Balana was caught after he and two others sold suspected shabu to an undercover officer along Avanceña Street in Barangay Poblacion 1, Sagay City around 9 p.m. on Thursday, police said.
One of the two suspects who evaded arrest was identified as Mae Ann Rose. The other suspect was still unidentified as of this writing.
The buy-bust operation led to the recovery of suspected shabu valued at around P10,000 contained in one big plastic sachet.
Police also impounded Balana’s Honda XRM motorcycle.
Balana, detained at the Sagay City police station lockup facility, was facing charges for violaton of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
