BACOLOD City – All public elementary school learners for school year 2024-2025 in this city will be given free school supplies by the city government.
The Local School Board (LSB) has approved for the utilization of P30-million fund from the Special Education Fund (SEF) of the city government, according to Councilor Al Victor Espino.
The procurement and distribution of the school supplies are provided for under the Educational Materials for Public Elementary Students Ordinance in Bacolod City, which former Councilor Caesar Distrito authored in 2016.
Espino, the chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee education, said the bidding process for the school supplies has started.
Last year, the city government failed to implement such ordinance due to “special circumstances.”
The city last year had allocated P15 million for the procurement of school supplies for the 72,000 enrolled student-beneficiaries.
The said amount that was under the annual budget for 2023 was returned to the general fund of the city, the councilor added./PN
