SAN JOSE, Antique – Free medical and surgical services will be made available for poor Antiqueño children with facial cleft deformities at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital from Oct. 24 to 28.
Nongovernment group Medical Mission Matters will provide the services in partnership with the hospital and the provincial government.
The group will supply all pre- and post-operative medicines, medical supplies, and anesthetic agents required for all pre- and post-operation care. It will also shoulder the patients’ transportation and meals.
On the other hand, the hospital will organize the medical team, which includes plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, Operating Room nurses, and support staff.
The Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office under the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office will identify the patients.
As of Friday, 55 cleft lip and cleft palate patients have been identified and have undergone pre-checkup and laboratory exam.
Pepito Miagao, in-house coordinator of Medical Mission Matters Philippine Group, Inc., said they have overseen around 2,000 successful operations in Panay Island and other parts of the country. (PNA)
