Fruit stand, house in Numancia go up in smoke

KALIBO, Aklan – Fire broke out in a fruit stand and house in Numancia, Aklan on Saturday afternoon, April 1.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) fire trucks of Numancia responded to the fire alarm at around 1:45 p.m. in Barangay Bulwang along Aklan West Road.

Firefighters from Kalibo, Banga, Makato and Malinao also helped.

According to witnesses, the fire initially started on the second floor of the two-storey house. The blaze quickly spread to the fruit stand on the ground floor. It was made of light materials.

The JTG fruit stand and house owned by Jomer Francisco sat on a 60-square meter lot.

Fire Officer I Jose Marvin Elbanbuena of Numancia said a fire out was declared at 2:10 p.m.

BFP-Numancia estimated the damage to property at P90,000.

No casualties were reported but the fruit stand owner sustained abrasions on an arm and thigh.

When the fire broke out, the four children of Francisco were inside the house.

Investigators have yet to determine or point out the initial cause of fire.

So far, three fire-related incidents were recorded in Numancia, Aklan last month. The fire incidents took place in the house in Barangay Camanci Sur, bushfire in Barangay Joyao-Joyao and a batchoy store in Numancia public market./PN
