GUIMARAS – This province’s food inflation rate eased to 6.9 percent in June 2023 from 8/2 percent in May, based on the generated data of the Consumer Price Index from the Retail Price Survey of Commodities conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
The top 3 food items that contributed to the slower food inflation in June were:
* fruits and nuts, with an inflation trend share of 43.1 percent
* fish and other seafood, 18.8 percent share
* meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 14 percent share
Food inflation in Guimaras began at a slower pace of 9.2 percent in 2023 and spiked to 12.0 in February. From then, it decelerated until April and slightly inched up to 8.2 percent in May, which finally eased to 6.9 percent in June 2023″, Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
Other food items that pulled down food inflation in June 2023 to a slower rate were rice; oils and fats; milk, dairy products and eggs; sugar confectionery and desserts; bakery and pasta products, and other cereals; ready-made food and other food products; and corn.
In Western Visayas, Guimaras’ 6.9 percent posted the slowest rate, while Antique had the fastest rate of 10.8 percent, followed by Aklan (10.1 percent), Iloilo (8.8 percent), Capiz (8.5 percent), Iloilo City (8.3 percent), and Negros Occidental (8.2 percent).
Two of the six provinces of the region exhibited an upward trend when compared to their level a month ago: Antique (from 8.4 percent) and Negros Occidental (from 7.5 percent), while the four other provinces managed to slow down. (With a report from PSA-Guimaras)/PN
