BACOLOD City – A former police officer who went rogue and listed as one of the country’s most wanted persons was arrested in Barangay 1 Poblacion, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
Anecio Lapara Jr. faces charges for robbery, robbery in band and illegal possession of firearms, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Wielding warrants of arrest, joint operatives of the national and local police units arrested Lapara around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 7.
According to the PNP, Lapara escaped from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Ormoc City while awaiting trial for his criminal cases.
Lapara was a member of the Philippine Constabulary Class 1988 and was absorbed in the PNP in 1991 but was separated from the service in 1999.
He reportedly led a criminal gang operating in Regions 7 and 8. (With a report from PNA/PN)
