ILOILO City – Considering the many financial constraints and concerns that teachers face, pre-service teachers of the College of Education of West Visayas State University (COE-WVSU) received a one-day training in financial literacy with the theme “Financial Literacy for Gen Z”.
Organized by SILAK, the official publication of the COE-WVSU, the workshop tackled adverse life situations as a result of a lack of financial literacy.
The speaker, Apolonio Española, an accountant and advocate for financial literacy, discussed possible financial conditions of individuals.
“Always think with the end in mind. Kamu nga mga bata pa look far, far out in the future. Kon indi kamu mag-prepare kag careful sa inyo finances daku nga kabudlay ang inyo malab-utan sa pagtigulang,” Española told participants.
A former member and a pioneer in computer auditing at SGV, an accounting and consulting firm, Española taught the COE students in coming up with their own desired financial projections by using the application Financial Calculator.
“The talk about the Financial Intelligence Quotient was informative and fun at the same time. The learnings were very relevant in daily scenarios where money is involved. Prioritizing the needs before the wants was emphasized,” said Runuel Lowies Salvador of BSED 1-A, a participant of the said workshop.
At the latter part of the program, the participants were divided into several groups to plan out and discuss their monthly budget plan with the goal of helping the students to properly allocate their monthly budget plan. (Dona Preter and Dionessa Grace Galimbo, SILAK/PN)
