MANILA – The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) has accepted the apology of Blackwater Elite team owner Dioceldo Sy.
This, however, is just the other shade of the scores as GAB is still mulling to sanction the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) team for violating coronavirus disease 2019 protocols.
“A stern warning may be issued by GAB to Blackwater to refrain from any practice in the meantime since the order has not yet come out.” GAB chairman Abraham Mitra said in an interview with Philippine News Agency on Monday evening.
“(Sy) has promised that the Elite will adhere to all the rules and safety standards as well as the directives of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease) and GAB,” he added.
According to Mitra, GAB could also mete out a fine to Blackwater. PBA commissioner Willie Marcial already slapped the Elite with a P100,000 penalty for violating the protocols.
The Blackwater issue originated when Sy himself said in a television interview the team held a practice. Eight players split in clusters of four did conditioning and shootaround sessions.
Sy told various media outfits last week Blackwater is up for sale for a minimum of P150 million after he was called out by Marcial and Mitra./PN
