MANILA – Global Football Club could no longer reclaim its license from the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) back after it was blacklisted by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).
In a decision released publicly recently, the GAB meted the punishment after Global FC and team manager Mark Jarvis failed to answer the complaint against the club.
“We are unhappy about what happened and we are acting on the complaint of the players whose livelihood and careers have been affected,” said GAB chairman Abraham Mitra.
“I hope this serves as a deterrent and lesson to others who may do the same. GAB’s mandate is to look after the welfare of our professional athletes and we intend to do just that,” he added.
Mitra furthered that Global FC must comply with the provisions of the contract they entered into after it was reported that the football club owed its players and employees a total of P5.894 million.
“Global FC management should understand that it is our duty to protect professional athletes, particularly when there are allegations of non-payment of compensation,” Mitra said.
Earlier this month, the PFF suspended the license of Global FC preventing them from competing in the 2020 Philippines Football League, which is targeted to start next month./PN
