MANILA – The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) is set to reinstate the professional basketball license of Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters forward Calvin Abueva when he completes the two requirements from the government body.

GAB chairman Abraham Mitra said on Friday that Abueva still needs to undergo a seminar on The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete and sign that he will abide by it.

The former PBA Rookie of the Year awardee will also have to undergo a drug test, a mandatory medical requirement by GAB on all professional athletes in the Philippines, he added.

“Calvin Abueva was remorseful in what he did and was sincere enough to accept his wrongdoings and asked for an apology for his actions with a promise not to repeat the same mistakes and set a good example to the audience especially the young fans,” said Mitra.

The move from the GAB could be a signal that the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is also close to lifting the indefinite ban slapped on Abueva that is going on for 15 months now.

Abueva was previously allowed by PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial to enter the Clark, Pampanga bubble following a meeting with him and Fuel Masters interim coach Michael “Topex” Robinson earlier this week.

Abueva has been suspended indefinitely by Marcial since June 2019 after clothesline hit on TNT KaTropa import Terrence Jones and lewd gestures to KaTropa guard Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s girlfriend./PN
