ILOILO City – Small boats in Western Visayas were barred from putting out to sea yesterday after the state weather bureau issued a gale warning.
Strong winds made vessels below 250 gross tonnage unfit for travel, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
“Mga fishing boats ginpagbawalan namon sa paglayag due to very rough sea conditions diri sa Panay,” Coast Guard-Iloilo commander Ramil Palabrica said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration issued the gale warning at 5 a.m.
Pump boats from Estancia, Iloilo; Victorias City, Negros Occidental; Masbate province; and Guimaras province, bound for Pulupandan, Negros Occidental were not allowed to travel.
But boats plying the Iloilo-Guimaras-Iloilo route were allowed to continue their trips, along with fast crafts Ocean Jet 7 and Weesam 8.
Fast crafts 2Go and Weesam 3 were prevented from traveling, too, because they were below 250 gross tonnage, the Coast Guard said./PN
