ILOILO City – Two youth gangs participated in a cleanup activity on General Luna, Jalandoni, Mabini, and Delgado streets. They repainted walls vandalized with graffiti.
The cleanup was the brainchild of Police Station 1. BRB gang and Sperm gang volunteered their services, according to Chief Inspector Aldren Lamera, police station chief.
He hoped the cleanup would foster friendship among members of the two groups and in the process avoid gang violence.
Twelve members of the BRB gang showed up for the cleanup, and two from Sperm gang.
The cleanup had the backing of the barangay council of Rizal Pala-Pala Zone II.
Youth gangs need not resort to violence to either get public attention or gain popularity, said Lamera.
A series of gang violence have been rocking the city since last year. The Iloilo City Police Office counted at least 25 gangs. Most of the members were minors./PN
