ILOILO City – The three barangay captains being investigated for the proliferation of illegal drugs in their respective villages have a month to prepare their explanations.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on police matters, public safety and illegal drugs has decided to summon barangay captains Keith Espinosa of Monica-Blumentritt (City Proper), Remia Prevendido Gregori of Bakhaw (Mandurriao) and Noemi Jablo of Desamparados (Jaro) for a January 2017 probe.
It will be an executive session, said committee chairperson Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon.
Family members of the three village chiefs were implicated in illegal drugs.
“This is their chance to defend their names,” said Ganzon.
He cited the approaching holiday season and the recent death of Jablo’s husband as reasons for the month-long interregnum in the investigation.
Ganzon said the investigation will not be affected by the death of Jablo’s husband Rusty whom the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6 described as a subgroup leader of the Prevendido drug group.
In the first executive session of Ganzon’s committee early this month, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 and Iloilo City Police Office revealed drug-related confidential information, according to Councilor Plaridel.
“The information was very detailed and more personalities were named,” Nava said.
Barangay Captain Espinosa is the wife of Jesus “Jing-jing” Espinosa Jr., ranked No. 2 in the Iloilo City Police Office – Police Station 1’s list of suspected drug personalities in the City Proper. Their house was raided on Oct. 2. Policemen recovered seven plastic sachets of shabu.
Barangay Captain Gregori is a sister of suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido. Her barangay has been classified by PDEA as “seriously affected” by illegal drugs./PN
