ILOILO City – Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman George Erwin Garcia will lead the groundbreaking for the poll body’s integrated field office in Barangay Taal, Molo district here tomorrow.
According to Iloilo City election officer Reinier Layson, the Comelec integrated field office will be a four-storey building where the regional office, Iloilo provincial office and Iloilo City office will hold offices.
The project costs around P40 million. Construction will start two weeks after the groundbreaking.
Currently, the Comelec regional office is in Jaro district, its Iloilo provincial office in La Paz district here, while its city office is on the second floor of the Iloilo Terminal Market.
Iloilo City Assistant Election Office Jonathan Sayno earlier said the location of the integrated Comelec building would be more accessible to the public.
It is also near the commission’s warehouse where ballot boxes and other election paraphernalia are being kept.
Garcia will be joined by other Comelec officials such the head of the Administrative Service Department, Engineer Julio Thadeus Hernan and Director Elaiza David of the Vulnerable Sectors Office.
To also grace the event are Iloilo’s Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas, Cong. Julienne Baronda, and Cong. James Ang Jr. of USWAG Ilongo party-list, among others./PN
