ILOILO – To strengthen food security and promote tourism and climate change resiliency, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. is instituting “Gardening for MoRProGRes” – “Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive and Resilient Province of Iloilo.”
The Defensor administration envisions a robust, globally competitive and resilient Iloilo through good governance and the equitable distribution of opportunities and resources.
The development goals of the province are as follows:
* to increase investments and employment opportunities
* to attain food security
* to provide accessible, sufficient and effective health and social services
* to protect and manage the resources and assets of the province
* to provide effective, efficient and transparent administrative services
* to maintain order and promote public safety
MoRProgGRes encompasses food security, tourism and climate change resiliency. Here are the objectives:
* to promote the production of high-value crops in various agricultural settings for food security
* to blend ornamental gardening, landscaping, and high-value crop production
* to create an agri-tourism destination for tourists, especially Ilonggo weekenders
* to create green agri-tourism destinations that promote the use of recycled or upcycled materials
*to contribute to the province’s climate change response
MoRProGRes Gardens may be established by the convergence partners or local government units (LGUs); public schools and academic/technical education institutions; non-government organizations; people’s organizations; socio-civic organizations; religious organizations; farmers; social media netizens; business; and other sectors.
The province and its convergence partners shall provide assistance to MoRProgGRes Gardens in the form of the following:
* training/orientation in high-value crop farming, ornamental plant gardening, landscaping, and the use of recycled or upcycled materials in gardening
* seedlings and other farm inputs
* agri-tourism establishment management
The provincial government will provide assistance to persons, local governments, barangay entrepreneurs, and groups interested in MoRProgGRes./PN
