ILOILO City – The cases of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) recorded daily in this southern city have slowed down.
Citing a report from the City Health Office, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said only one additional case of AGE was added on Saturday, Sept. 10, and 14 cases on Friday.
“Cases continue to increase but no longer as fast as the previous days. We hope to have already stopped additional infections in the next week,” said Treñas.
He is hopeful that the slowing down of the cases continues.
As of Sept. 10, there are a total of 495 AGE cases in the city but 450 of these or 91.1 percent have already recovered while 16 cases or 3.2 percent are still admitted at the hospital, 18 cases or 3.6 percent are being managed at home, and 10 patients or 2 percent have died.
Moreover, while the number of cases is slowing down, the number of barangays infected by the disease has reached 105 from 85 last week.
Treñas continues to appeal to everyone to follow health protocols to avoid AGE infection such as hand washing, boiling water for drinking, avoiding water from shallow wells, buying water from certified water refilling stations, among others.
“Let us continue to boil our water and purchase drinking water from safe outlets and water refilling stations. Let us continue to protect ourselves,” the city mayor added./PN
