MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo did not show any signs of rust from long layoff as they cruised to a 9-0 victory over Tuloy Football Club in the 2024 Philippines Football League on Wednesday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Jarvey Gayoso was on fire for the defending champions Kaya-Iloilo, knocking down seven goals to spearhead the onslaught, while Shuto Komaki and Audie Menzi contributed a conversion each.
Gayoso opened the scoring in the eighth minute as he blew past a lone defender to knock in the ball. The lead was doubled five minutes later as Komaki unloaded a volley from beyond the penalty box.
Gayoso then knocked down his second goal of the game via a header from a pass by Marco Casambre before he closed the first half with back-to-back goals for a 5-0 advantage.
The goal spree continued for the former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles standout in the second half as he slotted another header from a pass by Robert Lopez Mendy in the 56th minute.
After several misses, Gayoso managed to connect his sixth goal in the 64th minute from a through ball by Komaki. He then completed his seven-goal game with another connection 11 minutes later.
Menzi joined the scoring party for the Iloilo City-based booters in the final 10 minutes of the game as he converted a header from a free kick by Komaki just inside the penalty box.
With the outcome, Kaya-Iloilo moved up to joint first place with Stallion-Laguna Football Club with 19 points apiece, but the former gained the provisional top spot due to goal difference.
Tuloy, on the other hand, dropped to 11th place in the 15-team field as they sustained their fifth defeat against two victories for six points.
Kaya-Iloilo will look to continue their winning ways as they battle Manila Digger FC on Sunday, June 2, at the same venue./PN
