MANILA – Jarvey Gayoso scored a brace as the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles topped De La Salle University Green Archers, 3-1, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s football at the FEU-Diliman pitch.
The Green Archers actually drew first blood in the game with Mauro Acot scoring a rocket from way outside the box at the 10th minute. Gayoso delivered a sweet finish in the 16th minute for the Blue Eagles to level the count.
Rupert Baña found the back of the net at the 42nd minute to put the Blue Eagles on top 2-1 at the half before Gayoso put the match from within reach with an 83rd minute conversion.
The Eagles have avenged their 1-2 loss to the Lady Arcjers at the end of the first round to rose at 19 points. The Green Archers remains level with defending champion University of the Philippines in fourth spot with 13 points.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University Tamaraws defeated National University Bulldogs, 2-1, with rookie Gio Pabualan and Nikki Canonigo draining second-half goals for the Tamaraws to negate Bulldogs’ Angelo Paring’s 36th minute strike.
In the other match, Steven Anotado struck in the 87th as University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers nipped University of the East Red Warriors, 2-1, to move up at 17 points.
Ian de Castro’s header off a John Alianza’s free kick put the Growling Tigers on board at the half, before Krysler Opeña, capitalizing on a goalkeeping error by Zaldy Abraham, scored the equalizer for the Red Warriors in the 59th minute./PN
