GLOBAL Business Power Corporation (GBP) subsidiaries – Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) and Panay Power Corporation (PPC) – celebrated the milestone of achieving 15 million safe man-hours without loss time incident.
As led and encouraged by the Safety Management Program, every GBP Panay Site team member – Including its organic employees, contract workers, security personnel, contractors, and sub-contractors – Is expected to have a health conscious mindset when performing their day-to-day work without compromising the quality of their outputs.
It was in 2018 when Mr. Jaime T. Azurin, Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGen) president, posed the challenge to attain 20 million safe man-hours by 2025, and the outstanding achievement of 15 million hours in 2022 reflects the site’s firm commitment to safety as it “walks the talk”.
“One of the things that we prioritize in our workplace is safety. Every day we wake up and go to work, and we ensure that we keep safety in our mind. We do everything safely while we are here inside the plant because the biggest and most important blessing is to go home to our families in good health,” said Atty. Antonio “Jun” C. Cabalhug Jr., First Vice President for Panay Site operations.
To commemorate this achievement, the site management together with representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 namely, Engr. Michael L. Gison, officer-in-charge, Labor Relations Labor Standards Division; and Mr. Melveen M. Melocoton, RN, MMPA Regional Manager for DOLE Occupational Safety and Health Center Region 6, awarded certificates to the employees and their long-term third-party partners for housekeeping, skilled labor, and security personnel.
As a token for the safety milestone, each employee received a reusable lunchbox. This is also in support of the Ban on Single Use Plastics initiative of the One Meralco Group.
GBP Panay Site operations hold an ISO 45001: 2018 certification by the Certification International Philippines, Inc. (CIP). This is the first and only international standard for occupational health and safety management, and for organizations that are serious about improving employees’ safety, reducing workplace risks and creating better, safer working conditions.
