GCash brings a more secure experience with Card PIN

The country’s leading mobile wallet, GCash, is bringing a safer and more secure experience to customers by implementing a 6-digit Card PIN upgrade to its GCash Card product.

Coming on September 7, 2021, the feature will enable all GCash customers with GCash Card to “upgrade” to a 6-digit PIN for ATM withdrawals and direct purchases along with the 4-digit MPIN for your usual easy app transactions. This will make their GCash Card more secure, as not only would the card PIN now be different from the GCash app MPIN, but a 6-digit PIN also has 1 million combinations — separating from your 4-digit one with 10,000 combinations.

“This is in line with the company’s #StaySafe campaign, where we develop and implement safer experiences for our customers, while also educating them on the best practices in protecting their GCash account,” said GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon. “It is among our goals to not only provide world-class products and services, but also a wonderful customer journey as well,” she added.

To nominate their GCash Card PIN, customers simply just need to log in to the GCash app, go to “My Linked Accounts”, tap on “GCash Mastercard”, select “Update PIN” then “Set Card PIN”, then enter their new 6-digit PIN. The update will take effect immediately and is readily available the next time the user will transact on an ATM or use the card for Point-of-Sale transactions.

Customers need not to replace their existing GCash Card to avail of the new PIN upgrade.

GCash meanwhile urged its customers to never divulge their MPIN and PIN to anyone. GCash’s only official support channel can be found at https://help.gcash.com.

“There are a lot of unscrupulous individuals or groups on social media that target vulnerable customers. This said, we are determined in protecting our community and will pursue those who take advantage of our customers with the full extent of the law,” Sazon added.

Earlier this year, GCash rolled out its biometrics login feature that allows its users to log in to the app using just their fingerprints, and also integrated its card transactions with 3D Secure.

For its part, GCash has been continuously coordinating with law enforcement, such as the NBI and the PNP, in investigating concerns and apprehending criminals.

GCash is available for download on the App Store and Google Play. For more information, kindly visit https://www.gcash.com/.
