ILOILO City – Park-based sports activities will soon be held at the public plaza in La Paz district.

This initiative is part of the proposed “Laro’t Saya sa Parke” (LSP) program of the city government and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

The Sangguniang Panlungsod granted Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog the authority to sign with the PSC a memorandum of agreement on the LSP.

Part of the program is the use of the La Paz plaza for park-based sports activities every Saturday.

According to the PSC, the LSP “will eventually evolve into a national campaign to draw Filipino families into sports.”

Under the deal, the PSC will provide a P10,000 weekly fund to be used as allowance of sports coaches who will teach arnis, basketball, football, lawn tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wushu, and Zumba.

Meanwhile the city government shall make La Paz plaza available for the program for at least five hours every Saturday this year and next year.

Already the La Paz plaza has been a venue of various sports events initiated by the local government. (PNA)
