MANILA – Filipino-American forward Jeremiah Gray is set to become a Kabarangay once he fully recovers from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear injury.
In a surprising move on Tuesday, Terrafirma Dyip traded their No.2 overall pick during the PBA Season 47 Rookie Draft on Sunday to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings.
In return, the Dyip received Filipino-Italian gunner Javier Gomez de Liano, Gin Kings’ No. 8 overall pick in the just-concluded draft, and sophomore guard Brian Enriquez.
The 6-foot-5 Gray is a welcome addition for the Gin Kings once he recovers from his ACL tear, which he sustained while playing for TNT Tropang Giga in the PBA 3×3 last year.
The 25-year-old high-flyer out of Division II school Dominican University of California has previously suited up for the BBC Sparta Bertrange in Luxembourg before moving to the Philippines.
Gray then played for several years with San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League and was part of Mighty Sports-Philippines that played in various tournaments abroad.
Gray, who played a huge role in TNT numerous title runs in the PBA 3×3 tourney, has been rehabbing in the United States for the past few months and is just a few months away from a return.
De Liano, who was recently selected to be part of Gilas Pilipinas pool, will be a good option for the Dyip on offense after his experience of playing in the Japan B.League.
In a separate trade approved by the PBA Commissioner’s Office, NLEX Road Warriors has shipped Tyrus Hill and David Murrell to Converge FiberXers for a future first round pick.
Both Hill and Murrell were worthy additions to the frontline rotation of the FiberXers after they failed to secure veteran forward Abu Tratter to a contract extension./PN
