Ginebra overturns Terrafirma in PBA

MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings recovered from a third quarter setback to wallop Terrafirma Dyip, 106-82, in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Down 56-64 in the third canto, the Gin Kings outscored the Dyip, 26-8, behind LA Tenorio, Christian Standhardinger, Japeth Aguilar and Arvin Tolentino to surge to an 82-72 lead.

The Gin Kings continued its rampage in the fourth quarter with connections from Earl Scottie Thompson and Aguilar. The lead reached its largest at 106-80.

Aguilar tallied 22 points, seven blocks and six rebounds, while Standhardinger flirted with triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Tolentino and Tenorio contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Thompson hauled 12 rebounds, seven points and six assists as the Gin Kings tied San Miguel Beermen on top with 6-1 slate.

Juan Miguel Tiongson top-scored with 24 points, with 20 coming in the opening half, while Aklanon Andreas Cahilig and Joseph Gabayni had 14 markers each as the Dyip dropped to 0-7.

In the first game, Aaron Black waxes hot in the fourth as Meralco Bolts (4-3) returned to their winning ways with a 77-73 beating of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (1-6).

Trailing at the onset of the fourth quarter, the Bolts got seven consecutive points from Black and back-to-back conversions from Chris Newsome for a 65-58 lead.

The Painters made its last push at 70-73 on a three-pointer by Beau Belga with under a minute left but Black answered back with an outside conversion of his own to seal the win for the Bolts.

Black finished the game with 20 points, Allein Maliksi added 19 markers, while Clifford Hodge and Raymond Almazan had 13 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Bolts.
