MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings pulled off another come-from-behind win in the 2023 PBA on Tour as it defeated Terrafirma Dyip, 114-106, last night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Down 93-101 with over seven minutes in the game, the Gin Kings got a triple from Nard John Pinto and two pointers from Jayson David, Jeremiah Gray and Aljon Mariano to take the lead at 102-101.
The Dyip took the lead for the last time at 106-102 but a triple by Von Pessumal, a jumper by Gray and back-to-back inside hits by Mariano gave the Gin Kings a 111-106 lead with under a minute left.
Mariano tallied double-double 25 points and 11 rebounds to go with four assists and three steals, while Sidney Onwubere added 20 markers as the Gin Kings notched its third straight win for a 4-3 record.
Pessumal finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Gray and Donald Gumaru ended with 16 points apiece, while David chipped in 11 markers for Barangay Ginebra.
Javier Gomez de Liano had double-double 23 points and 11 rebounds, Angelo Alolino added 16 markers, while Eduardo Daquioag, Eric James Camson and George Isaac Go had 13 each as the Dyip dropped to 3-5.
In the first game, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters survived a furious fourth quarter uprising by the Converge FiberXers for a 127-110 victory. The Painters improved to 5-1, while the FiberXers dropped to 3-4.
Leading by as much as 31 points, the Painters were stunned by the FiberXers in the final quarter as they threatened to within 102-115 following a three pointer by playing assistant coach McJour Luib.
Rain or Shine, however, restored order as three free throws and a three-point shot by Anton Asistio and a layup and two freebies from Rey Nambatac widened their lead to 125-104.
Asistio top-scored with 20 points, including five triples, Shaun Ildefonso added 19 markers, while Nambatac, Leonard Santillan and Nicholas Demusis ended with 17, 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Painters.
