MANILA – After bagging the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup championship, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings also dominated the individual honors during the virtual Special Awards Night last night.

Stanley Pringle captured the Philippine Cup’s Best Player of the Conference (BPC) trophy while Prince Caperal was hailed as the Most Improved Player (MIP). Earl Scottie Thompson came home with the Samboy Lim Sportsmanship Award.

Pringle bested TNT Tropang Giga’s Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Roger Pogoy, Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters’ Matthew Wright and Calvin Abueva, and TerraFirma Dyip’s Jaymar Perez for the BPC trophy.

This was the first time in seven years that a different player became recipient of the BPC citation as Pringle ended the reign of San Miguel Beermen’s June Mar Fajardo, who had the crown for the past years.

Pringle was also named as part of the Outstanding Five – equivalent of Mythical Five – along with Kings teammate Japeth Aguilar, Abueva, Wright and Tropang Giga’s John Paul Erram.

Caperal, on the other hand, bagged the MIP trophy beating five other players, including Negrenses Justin Chua of Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, Raul Soyud of NLEX Road Warriors and Reynel Hugnatan of Meralco Bolts.

Thompson notched the Samboy Lim Sportsmanship Award unseating three-time winner Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters while Bolts’ Aaron Black was hailed as the Outstanding Rookie of the bubble.

The league has decided to do away with the Mythical Second Team and the All-Defensive Team after the 2020 PBA season was reduced to a conference due to the coronavirus health crisis./PN
