ILOILO City – An eight-year-old girl in Lambunao, Iloilo claimed her 53-year-old grandfather raped her.
The suspect was taken to the municipal police station.
On June 14 a complaint for rape in relation to Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) was filed against the grandfather at the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
According to Chief Inspector Jogen Suegay, Lambunao police chief, the girl claimed she was raped thrice in a forested area of their remote village.
The girl, a Grade 3 pupil, was accompanied by an aunt to the police station on June 12 to alert cops after she was raped for the third time, said Suegay.
“The suspect threatened to harm the victim should she tell anyone about the rape,” added the police chief.
The girl was staying at her grandfather’s house. Her mother was working in Manila, said Suegay.
The grandfather, a laborer, denied raping the girl.
Under Section, Article III of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, the penalty of reclusion temporal in its medium period to reclusion perpetua shall be imposed upon those who commit the act of sexual intercourse with a child exploited in prostitution or subject to other sexual abuse./PN
