THE Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) celebrated its 79th founding anniversary on May 26 at the Melvin Jones Grandstand in Burnham Park, Baguio City.
GSP national president Susan R. Locsin and Baguio City Mayor, Hon. Mauricio Domogan, who has staunchly supported Girl Scouting in this city, will deliver their messages to the two thousand Girl Scouts from GSPās Luzon Regions attending the event. The logo of the 79th anniversary will be unveiled on this day, and GSP National Executive Director Ma. Dolores T. Santiago will read its meaning.Ā Special numbers will be rendered by Girl Scouts from the Baguio City Girl Scout Council and the Planning Team of the 3rd National Gathering of Girl Representatives.
The theme, āIsang Lahi,ā celebrates the diversity of Girl Scouts all over the Philippines who, for 79 years and counting, have always been ready to embrace lifeās challenges, serve others, and change millions of lives through its unique program.
Girl Scouts will enjoy a morning of simultaneous activities in booths that showcase GSPās Eight-Point Challenge and Special Programs, WAGGGSās Programs, and the United Nationās Sustainable Development Goals.
Josefa Llanes Escoda, with the help of friends, patrons, and influential women, lobbied for the chartering of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines as a national organization. On May 26, 1940, President Manuel L. Quezon signed Commonwealth Act No. 542, which officially founded the GSP./PN
