KALIBO, Aklan – Respondents must give “truthful and honest” answers to government-commissioned data collectors, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
According to Provincial Statistics Officer Antonet Catubuan, data from surveys that the PSA conducts are important.
This month, the PSA is conducting its labor force survey.
Catubuan said the survey will help determine the current employment rate in the region and in the country.
“[The survey] will provide information on the creation and generation of gainful employment and livelihood opportunities, reduction of unemployment and underemployment, and enhancement of the welfare of the working person,” she said.
The survey intends to gather data on the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the population based on a “past week” reference period, Catubuan added.
Based on the latest results of labor force survey, unemployment rate in Western Visayas increased to 5.6 percent in October 2017 from 2.9 percent a year ago.
The labor force participation rate that month was estimated at 60.4 percent, lower than 63 percent in October 2016.
The labor force is comprised of employed and unemployed individuals.
Meanwhile, underemployment rate in October 2017 dropped to 13.7 percent, lower compared to 22.8 percent a year ago.
Underemployment rate is the percentage of the underemployed to the total employed.
