IT was a day of celebration as Global Business Power (GBP) held a Thanksgiving Lunch on Dec. 17 at the Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo.

GBP is one of the country’s leading power producers.

In front of the managers of Panay Power Corporation and Panay Energy Development Corporation – as well as the special guests and media practitioners – Mr. Jaime T. Azurin, GBP Corporation President, announced the successes of GBP in the year 2018.

In his speech, Azurin said that GBP launched a new set of vision, mission, and values to help chart the company’s strategy to move forward.

The company also launched the state-of-the-art GBP Institute for Energy (GIE) in Iloilo which features a stimulator room for the Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB). The CFB technology stimulator enables GBP employees to conduct hands-on study of real-life operational situations.

Also, GBP has partnered with West Visayas State University – College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF), Lambunao Iloilo for The Handumanan Project. “Handumanan” means legacy in Hiligaynon.

In WVSU-CAF, there is a 150-hectare carbon sink situated within the campus. This highlights the shared commitment of GBP and WVSU to help conserve the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Azurin also announced the success in GBP’s continuous partnership with their 20 adopted barangays in Iloilo. They have completed programs such as the construction of Barangay Health Center in Barangay Loboc, replacement of street lights and its peripherals at Barangay Hinactan, provision of water system at the Barangay Ignore Health Center, the provision and installation of foot slabs in Zones 1-6 at Barangay Lopez Jaena Norter, and the repair of Community Center (ceiling, flooring, and construction of CR) at Barangay Baldoza, La Paz – all in Iloilo City.

The company also conducted an Adopt-a-Health-Center program where they conducted training with Barangay Health Workers focusing on treatment and care for hypertension.

Moreover, in partnership with WVSU College of Education, GBP conducted a workshop for 50 elementary teacher participants titled “How to Prepare an Effective Powerpoint Presentation with basic Excel Functions”.

Emerging victorious in 2018, Mr. Azurin ended his speech by having bright hopes in the next year to come. He said, “As we look forward to a brighter 2019, we enjoin you to help Enlighten Lives and Empower Progress in Panay and the rest of the Visayas Region!”/PN
