Global Cebu Football Club not ‘closing’ yet

WHILE admitting having financial problems, Global Cebu assured its fans that it will not leave the ongoing 2018 Philippines Football League.

Global denied that it will fold out midway into the season and stressed it will continue to fight despite not getting financial support from its new owner, Alvin Carranza.

“Global Cebu FC had to rely on the personal sacrifices of the players and the staff to survive,” the team said in a statement sent to Buzzer Beater. “We personally solicited financial help and sponsorships from friends and longtime supporters of the club.

“Global Cebu is putting this letter out to assure our fans that we have been doing our best to keep the team moving forward. That’s why it is very discouraging to hear about untruths/half-truths being spread about the club.”

The team disclosed that it was not supposed to participate in this year’s PFL and the AFC Asian Cup but went on anyway just to prevent the Philippines from getting penalized.

“We cannot afford the Philippines to lose a spot in the prestigious club tournament in the continent as well as jeopardize the young PFL league that had just been set up,” it said.

“Also, we were aware of sanctions that may be imposed on the club for withdrawal in the AFC Cup,” it added. “Our conscience would not allow this fate to befall on Philippine football, especially after all that we had accomplished in the past eight years.”

COLLEGE CAGER FINDS A NEW HOME?

A popular but not-that-productive collegiate player may have found a new team as he was spotted joining the practice of one of the rebuilding collegiate basketball squads earlier this week.

A source told Buzzer Beater the collegiate player is more likely to play for that school, where he will be reunited with his former head coach and some of his former teammates.

Abangan.”/PN
