MANILA – The Global FC has reiterated its commitment to compete in the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) amid complaints of players and a graphics designer for not getting paid.
In a statement released on Tuesday night, the Mazinyi Management Ltd. said that they will attend the meeting called by PFL commissioner Mikhail Torre today to shed light on the issue.
“It is confirmed that the PFF/PFL have requested a meeting with the new management of Global FC to discuss these posts and other issues with regards to Global’s fitness to participate in the 2020 season,” the statement read.
“We would like to reiterate that we are committed to Global FC and clearing these matters, as well as ensuring its participation in the 2020 season with an eye on challenging for trophies,” it added.
Bacolod City-based graphic designer Saya Jaruda complained on his Facebook post late Sunday evening that Global FC has not yet paid him for providing graphics announcing the team’s new acquisitions.
Ghanian booter John Cofie commented on the said post. Cofie had committed to sign with the football club before decommitting recently after not being paid of his signing fee and six months worth of salary.
“In regard to the Saya situation, there was no written invoice by him or anything or even contract,” Global FC said. “We understand there will always be attention seekers threatening the club’s prestigious name.”
“As for Cofie, there was no formal written notice of complaint to the (Global FC) team manager,” it added. “Going to the press and sharing a contract and promoting violence are also in violation of FIFA integrity rules.”
The issue on salaries is nothing new for Global FC. Former players also complained of not being paid when the club was still based in Cebu City and even when it transferred to Makati last year./PN
