MANILA – Makati City is back in the local football scene after striking a deal to serve as the new home of the Global Football Club for the 2019 Philippine Premier League (PPL) next month.
In a statement released on its social media page, Global Football Club said it decided to relocate to Makati City after two years stay with Cebu with the PPL holding most of its matches in Metro Manila.
“The new PPL will be played mostly in Manila until the new format is sustainable for all Clubs. Therefore the teams have been asked to relocate to Manila,” Global FC said in a statement.
“(Football fans) will see tremendous changes on all levels of the Club: players, management, marketing, Fan activities, home ground, etc.,” it added. “But what will not change is the passion for football, the team’s passion and our appreciation for the fans.”
Global FC said it scheduled a press conference next week where they will formally announce its move to Makati City as well as to show the changes in the squad.
Makati City has previously served as the home for Kaya Futbol Club before it decided to relocate to Iloilo City, a known football hotbed in the country.
The move to Makati City could be a welcome development for Global FC after it faced financial woes in Cebu last year, which led to cancellation of some of its matches last year.
Recently, several players from Global FC have went to social media to express their disgust as they have yet to receive their salary for the games they played for the team in the Philippines Football League./PN
