LIBACAO, Aklan – “To those who continue to go out of their houses even for non-essential reasons, please do so more and more each day. Continue violating quarantine protocols when policemen turn their backs. The local government unit is ready to support you by providing 100 body bags and 20 catacombs. Hindi naming kayo pababayaan.”
Acting Mayor Vincent Navarosa issued these sarcastic statements following a surge in cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) here.
Libacao currently has 13 active COVID-19 cases.
At least nine houses were placed on surgical lockdown in barangays Julita and Poblacion.
Navarosa issued Executive Order No. 5-2021 on Feb. 15 temporarily closing the municipal building. Municipal employees were ordered to work from home from Feb. 15 to 19.
On Feb. 9, the Libacao Municipal Health Office temporarily suspended its operation after its two nurses and a janitor contracted coronavirus. It will reopen on Feb. 21.
The nurses and janitor were placed in isolation together with the 10 other cases either at the Aklan Training Center or the Ligtas COVID Center.
Navarosa said daily disinfection and cleaning of the Libacao public market, municipal building, streets, paradahan (transport terminal) and municipal health office are being conducted to help contain the spread of coronavirus.
All residents were encouraged to follow health guidelines – wearing of facemask and face shield, physical distancing and proper washing of hands with soap and water.
Mayor Charit Navarosa, although tested negative for COVID-19, is on home quarantine in Barangay Poblacion for 14 days as required by health authorities./PN
