ILOILO – The provincial government targets herd immunity by Nov. 28 this year.
“Damo na gid man kita nabakunahan against COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019),” said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, head of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
As of Sept. 22, 18 percent of the province’s 1,448,757 target population completed their vaccination – 164,155 received two-dose jabs while 79,842 got the single shot Janssen vaccine.
Among those who got their second dose were the following: health workers (40,479), senior citizens (48,571), persons with co-morbidities (53,231), economic frontliners (21-510), and indigents (364).
PHO set a daily vaccination target for each of the 43 local government units (LGUs).
“Herd immunity”, also known as “population immunity”, according to the World Health Organization, is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection.
The PHO vaccination team is conducting barangay-based vaccination in towns with high COVID-19 cases like Oton, Santa Barbara, Pavia, Pototan, and Anilao.
Meanwhile, the top 10 LGUs with the highest vaccine accomplishment are Pototan (12,332), Passi City (11,514), Miag-ao (9,762), Lambunao (9,572), Oton (8,608), Dumangas (8,092), Tigbauan (8,116. ), Janiuay (7,868), Pavia (7,604), and Ajuy (7,424)./PN
