ILOILO City – The New Year goals are clear.
For the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), it is to ensure there would be no injuries or deaths due to stray bullets.
For the Bureau of Fire Protection 6 (BFP-6), it is to make celebrations free from injurious property-damaging firecracker blasts.
The PRO-6 warned policemen and all those with guns to refrain from firing them to welcome year 2022.
It is not, however, taping the muzzles of policemen’s service firearms because there are no orders for it from the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame.
The PNP is just counting on the policemen’s professionalism and good sense.
During last year’s new year celebration, the PRO-6 recorded two cases of stray bullets.
“We are hoping that this year, there will be no cases of stray bullets or indiscriminate firing of guns. Our police personnel are disciplined,” said PRO-6 spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis.
On the other hand, BFP’s Fire Senior Superintendent Jerry Candido said they aim to maintain last year’s feat – zero fire incident this year.
The public also has a key role, said Solis.
“Be careful. Make sure ang mga kandila or mga gamit mapatay antis magtulog. Also, indi gid magpalupok sa ila balay kay delikado.
BFP data showed nine manufacturers secured permits in manufacturing and selling of firecrackers and this included eight from Hinigaran Negros Occidental and one in Bacolod City.
“Again we are appealing to the public to be responsible,” said Solis./PN
