Golden Lions keeps Brothers’ Cup title

BACOLOD City – Central Philippine University Golden Lions clinched the crown in the women’s category of the 4th Brother’s Cup Volleyball Collegiate Invitational at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court here.

The Golden Lions emerged as champion for the third straight year in the pocket tournament after defeating University of St. La Salle Lady Stingers on Sunday night in the gold medal match.

Shyrel Ambrocio was hailed as the Most Valuable Player and Best Setter, Ritchelle Amuan as the Best Spiker and Euna Gene Piosca was named  Best Libero for the Golden Lions.

Also part of the team of head coach Tony Arnilla were Daniela Louise Eguico, Eunice Guevarra, Kaira Abello, Angolaye Ataza, Martha Mae Dizon, Glezel Anne Ledesma, Hannah Jane Magbanua, Arianne Nadine Patopaten, Monica Perez, and Virgie Grace Villaruel.

The Golden Lions and Lady Stingers went on to fight for the Brothers’ Cup crown after the tournament organizer surprisingly declared Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts as just a “guest team” after the elimination round.

The Thunderbolts were supposed to be one of the finalists after finishing the elimination round on top with 3-0 win-loss slate by defeating the Golden Lions, Lady Stingers and Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod in the elimination round.

Golden Lions placed second in the eliminations round with 2-1 win-loss record, followed by the Lady Stingers (1-2) and the CSA-Bacolod (0-3)./PN
