GOLDEN State Warriors are holding their breath as Klay Thompson awaits the results on tests conducted to him after sustaining an injury in a workout session in Southern California on Wednesday (Thursday in the Philippines).
Thompson is scheduled for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test on Thursday to determine the severity of the injury of the All-Star shooting guard, the team statement said.
Yahoo Sports described Thompson’s leg injury was feared to be a “significant Achilles injury” while ESPN said the look of the injury of the three-time NBA champion was “not good.”
“Warriors guard Klay Thompson suffered a leg injury today during a workout in Southern California. No other details are available at this time. We will provide further updates as appropriate,” the GSW statement read.
The 30-year-old Thompson was supposed to make his return for the Warriors in the upcoming NBA season after sitting out the entire 2019-2020 season recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Thompson, a one-time Olympic and FIBA World Cup gold medal winner, sustained the ACL tear injury in Game 6 of the 2018-2019 NBA Finals against eventual champions Toronto Raptors.
With Thompson out and Stephen Curry down with a broken hand much of the season, Golden State went from Western Conference champions to a league-worst 15 victories last season.
Thompson, who was drafted by Golden State with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Washington State, signed a five-year, $189.9 million deal before the 2019-2020 season.
Thompson owns a career average of 19.5 points in 615 games over his eight NBA seasons./PN
