ILOILO City – The southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon “Goring” left Western Visayas with one fatality while damage to agriculture reached P192,564,208.39.
The eight-year-old girl from Barangay General Fullon, San Remigio, Antique drowned while crossing the river in Barangay Iglinab, Valderrama town on Aug. 28, based on the situational report of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region 6 as of 1 a.m. yesterday.
“The victim along with her father attempted to traverse the river and the father had accidentally let go of his grip to his child and was suddenly swept away by the strong current of floodwaters,” OCD-6 said.
Broderick Train, head of Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), further said that around 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 28 the victim his father and their other relatives crossed the river to go home in Barangay General Fullon when the incident happened.
“May dyan kita incident sa Iglinab, Valderrama. Isa ni ka pamilya nga nagtabuk kag nagpauli pa sa ila barangay sa Barangay General Fullon, binukid ni nga lugar eh,” Train said.
The girl’s remains were recovered around 5 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, in Barangay Patria, Pandan town.
The OCD-6 also said flooding destroyed rice, corn and other high-value crops, including farm machineries in the region.

* Negros Occidental – P125,593,492.34
* Guimaras – P1,477,679.89
As of this writing, the provinces of Aklan and Capiz have yet to submit their respective damage report.
OCD-6 data further showed that 4,571 farmers in the region were affected: Antique – 571, Iloilo – 922, Negros Occidental – 3,043, and Guimaras – 35.
As of 1 a.m. on Sept. 1, a total of 78,623 families composed 290,388 individuals were affected.
Of which, 4,417 families or 19,201 persons were served inside 237 different evacuation centers and 5,099 families or 20,418 persons were served outside evacuation centers.
Here is the breakdown of those affected per province:
* Aklan – two families or 10 individuals
* Antique – 7,274 families or 28, 270 individuals
* Guimaras – 1,236 families or 5,012 individuals
* Iloilo – 40, 337 families or 160,675 individuals
* Negros occidental – 29,734 families or 96,421 individuals
The OCD-6 also recorded 350 damage houses across the region: 74 totally and 276 partially damaged.

* Antique – 58 houses (22 totally damaged, 36 partially damaged)
* Negros Occidental – 197 houses (34 totally damaged, 163 partially damaged)
* Iloilo – 92 houses (17 totally damaged, 75 partially damaged)
* Aklan – one partially damaged
* Guimaras – two houses (one totally damaged, one partially damaged)
