ILOILO – Vice Mayor Raymund Gumban of the municipality of Pavia may run for mayor in the upcoming 2019 midterm elections.
It’s an option and a possibility, according Gumban, a two-term vice mayor who belonged to the Nacionalista Party (NP).
If he so decides to run for mayor even if he is still eligible to seek a third consecutive term, Gumban would be clashing against Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Luigi Gorriceta, a cousin of Mayor Michael Gorriceta.
Mayor Gorriceta is running for congressman of the 2nd District in a bid to succeed Cong. Arcadio Gorriceta, his father. He and Luigi are NP members, too.
Gumban played down the endorsements that Luigi got from the incumbent mayor and the congressman.
“Ti ila na hinablos, as expected siya ang suportahan siempre,” said Gumban.
He, however, stressed the Gorriceta family name is not a convenient passport to becoming the Pavia mayor.
The people of Pavia are looking for qualified candidates, those with accomplishments and experience in public service, Gumban stressed.
Luigi is a two-term SB member.
