KALIBO, Aklan – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is studying the proposed bridge project in the famed island destination Boracay.
San Miguel Corp. earlier this year proposed the construction of a P3-billion bridge that will link the island resort to Barangay Caticlan in mainland Malay.
“I have already received the proposal for the bridge project. We are currently studying it,” said DPWH secretary Mark Villar.
Villar added that they have to determine whether the 1.5-kilometer bridge is “good or bad” for Boracay’s tourism industry.
The DPWH chief was in Boracay recently with Environment secretary Roy Cimatu for a joint inspection in relation to the island’s rehabilitation.
San Miguel Corp. president Ramon Ang earlier said they “can build the bridge within 2 years.”
“All concrete. Passable ang ilalim ng bark. It can handle sewage and all solid waste,” Ang added./PN
