WORKERS affected by the closure of some businesses due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic can get a temporary job from the Department of Labor, its head said Monday.
The agency will pay minimum wage to workers who will disinfect schools and government buildings. Those interested should apply at DOLE offices, said Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello.
“Bibigyan namin sila ng trabaho para makasuweldo sila,” he told DZMM.
The government earlier urged employers
to consider work-from-home arrangements for their staff after President Rodrigo
Duterte placed Metro Manila under community quarantine from Mar. 15 to Apr. 14.
The DOLE will also “subsidize”
companies so they can pay regular employees if, upon full utilization of their
leaves, they are required to undergo quarantine for 14 days, Bello said Sunday.
