Grammy website features James Reid performance

FILIPINO performer and record label executive James Reid marked a new milestone in his career, with a Grammy website spotlight featuring his performance of his new song “California Lovin.”

Reid’s number was shown in the latest episode of “Press Play At Home,” with an introduction of the actor-singer detailing his rise to fame via “Pinoy Big Brother” to his turn as a record producer as co-founder of Careless Music.

“California Lovin’,” which Reid co-wrote with Ken Nana and Darius Coleman, is described in the Grammy feature as a “yearning pop song that conjures up the dreamy excitement of new love, daunted by distance but heady in the moment.”

“Reid names psychedelic funk as his favorite genre, and the song borrows from those influences, using vocal runs and a pulsing beat to create a song that’s as much about a feeling as a storyline,” it added.

Reid created the track “during a trip to Los Angeles to work on music,” according to the article.

This year, Reid has so far flown twice to LA, first in February, and more recently, in mid-May, both for work commitments.

Reid has been spotted in various high-profile events, including the annual Oscars viewing party of the Elton John AIDS Foundation; and the Gold House Gala, notably with Liza Soberano, whom he now manages.

Reid is currently with Transparent Arts, a US-based agency that aims to promote Asian-American talents. (ABS-CBN News)
