CAPIZ – A 71-year-old grandfather was rushed to the hospital after his grandson hacked him on Saturday evening, June 22, in Sitio Proper, Barangay Capagao, Panitan town.
Cornelio Catalan, a resident of the village, sustained a hack wound on his head. He was recuperating at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.
According to the Panitan Municipal Police Station (MPS), a misunderstanding ensued while Cornelio and the 31-year-old Ryan Catalan were having a drinking spree.
The victim first punched his grandson in the face and the latter retaliated by getting a bolo and hit his grandfather on the head, police added.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Panitan MPS.
He was however released from detention after the reglementary period lapsed.
As of this writing, Panitan police were awaiting the family’s decision on whether to press a charge against the suspect./PN
