BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed an appropriation ordinance providing retirement gratuity compensation for barangay health workers (BHWs) in the city.
With a P1.7-million budget allocation, the SP-approved ordinance will cover qualified BHWs, who will avail themselves of the retirement incentive.
The measure is awaiting the signature of Mayor “Bing” Evelio Leonardia, said Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the SP Committee on Finance and Appropriations.
“A BHW refers to a person who has undergone training programs under any accredited government and nongovernment organization,” added Distrito.
The standard age to avail the compensation is 65 to 75 years old, or an optional age retirement of 60 years old.
“BHWs are the ones in the frontline in providing crucial social services in Bacolod. They are exposed to risks associated with the maintenance and promotion of public health,” the measure stated./PN
