MANILA – The De La Salle University Green Archers took advantage of the longer break to sharpen its arrows for the UAAP Season 79 men’s seniors basketball finals on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Green Archers head coach Aldin Ayo said the extended break was a blessing
in disguise, enough for them to fix their errors during their semifinals clash against the Adamson University Falcons.
“Iyung mga lapses na ginawa namin sa Final Four against Adamson, we’ll make sure ma-resolve namin and siguraduhin namin na come December 3, magawa na ang dapat gawin,” said Ayo.
“It’s down to the last two or three games. If we don’t fix our problem now, there’s a chance we’ll regret kung paano matapos ang season. And of course, we wouldn’t want that to happen. We’ll do what it takes to win the championship,” he added.
Ayo was visibly frustrated after their hard-earned 69-64 victory over the Falcons on Wednesday evening in a game where the Green Archers committed 26 errors and just three assists.
“Ang sama ng laro namin. Coach Glen (Capacio) was comforting me after the game, ang sabi ko, hindi ako papayag na ganun-ganun lang ang laro kasi hindi ito yung makarating ka lang ng finals, okay na.” Ayo said.
“Sabi ko sa mga bata, you have to be accountable and you have to do our part because lahat naman ginagawa natin, yung suporta ng managers, yung practice plan, game-plan, lahat andun na. It’s just a matter of executing those schemes eh,” Ayo added.
The Green Archers will be facing the winner between the Ateneo Blue Eagles and defending champion Far Eastern University Tamaraws series. The Blue Eagles and Tamaraws are facing in a do-or-die game on Wednesday.
“I don’t care if it’s FEU or Ateneo (who will win). Bahala sila magpatayan,” Ayo said. “I believe in the saying that, ‘Be careful what you wish for’ kaya mas maganda na wala na lang akong piliin sakanila.”/PN
