ILOILO City – A former village chief was arrested on Monday night in Barangay Tolarocan, Mina, Iloilo for possessing a hand grenade and shabu.
From his house, Charlie Gonzales, 53, was taken to the Mina police station.
According to Inspector Roy Castro, Mina police chief, his men searched Gonzales’ house around 6:30 p.m. on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Vicente Go of the Regional Trial Court. Cops recovered a hand grenade, three sachets of shabu and drugs paraphernalia.
The Mina police applied for the search warrant from the court after an Aug. 27, 2016 incident, said Castro. A resident complained to the police that Gonzales was threatening him.
“We further received information that he was armed with a grenade,” Castro told Panay News.
The Mina police also ranked Gonzales No. 6 in its list of suspected drug personalities.
“He surrendered in July. He claimed he was a drug user,” said Castro. But the police did not buy it.
Gonzales faces a charge for illegal drug and illegal gun possession.
In 2004, Gonzales was charged with double homicide for the death of two residents, added Castro./PN
