Grupo Progreso predicts sweeping midterm polls

Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia.

BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia’s Grupo Progreso (GP) is aiming for a “15-0” win in next year’s midterm elections.

Leonardia, who leads the 15-member local political group, said GP has to be “strong as it can be.”

The mayor said local officials must be united so that development would be faster.

Ma-achieve ta lang ina kon magdalaog ang mga kandidato sa isa lang ka grupo nga nagaintyindihanay,” he added.

Leonardia said he will announce GP’s slate before the filing of certificates of candidacy, which will begin Oct. 11 and end Oct. 17.

The Magbinuligay Kita sa Kauswagan (MKK) – another political group in Bacolod City – has yet to announce its slate, too.

MKK is led by Leonardia’s political nemesis former mayor Monico Puentevella.

Leonardia won over Puentevella in the mayoralty race during the 2016 elections.

Leonardia said some members of the MKK now support GP. One of them is Councilor Ana Marie Palermo, an MKK former member.

Palermo, who earlier said she will seek reelection next year, is now officially allied with GP./PN
