GOLDEN State Warriors cruised to a wire-to-wire 121-99 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the 2020-2021 National Basketball Association (NBA) Season at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California, United States on Wednesday night (Thursday in the Philippines).
Stephen Curry finished the match with near triple-double 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists while rookie James Wiseman and Andrew Wiggins added 20 and 18 markers respectively as the Warriors improved to a 8-6 win-loss slate.
The Warriors started strong behind Curry, Wiseman and Kelly Oubre for a 36-25 advantage. The lead grew further in the second period as it reached 64-46 at the half with baskets from Curry.
The Spurs showed some life in the third quarter coming to as close as 62-74, but inside hits from Wiseman and sssssKent Bazemore widened the advantage to 90-69.
San Antonio pushed anew in the fourth period as they cut the deficit to 84-100, but back-to-back triples by Wiggins followed by three-pointers from Brad Wanamaker and Jordan Poole sealed the win for Golden State.
Dejounte Murray finished the game with 22 points while DeMar DeRozan and Keldon Johnson chipped in 15 and 12 markers respectively as the Spurs dropped to 8-7.
In other results, Collin Sexton heated up in second overtime as Cleveland Cavaliers pulled off a 147-135 stunner over Brooklyn Nets at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, US.
After sending the match to second extension with his game-tying triple, Sexton unloaded back-to-back three-pointers to start the second OT to surge the Cavaliers ahead at 136-129.
The Nets rallied to within 131-136, but Sexton drained two more triples followed by another outside conversion from former Brooklyn player Taurean Prince to extend the lead to 145-131.
Sexton finished the match with 42 points, including five triples while Cedi Osman contributed 25 markers as the Cavaliers halted their losing run and rose to 9-7. The Nets, meanwhile, slid to 7-7.
In other results, Philadelphia 76ers (10-5) tripped Boston Celtics (8-5), 117-109; Dallas Mavericks (7-7) edged Indiana Pacers (8-6), 124-112; Miami Heat (6-7) walloped Toronto Raptors (5-9), 111-102; and Atlanta Hawks (7-7) whipped Detroit Pistons (3-11), 123-115.
